The Chiasso railway station, in the eponymous municipality (district of Mendrisio), is located in the southern part of Canton Ticino and is the main border hub between Switzerland and Italy.

SBB SA completed a conservative renovation of the Chiasso station in 2023, with a total investment of approximately 15 million Swiss francs.

Inside the building, administrative offices and various commercial activities are hosted, including an AVEC Convenience Shop open seven days a week, a snack bar, the SBB Travelers Center, a pharmacy, a take-away with Argentine specialties, and a barber shop.

In recent years, the station area has benefited from further redevelopment interventions, including the construction of the new bus terminal and the new station square, both of which became fully operational in 2023.

A few steps north of the station, the Canton has launched the design of the new headquarters of the Centro Professionale Tecnico of the textile sector (CPT), which will include the Scuola d’Arti e Mestieri (SAM) for tailoring and the Scuola Specializzata Superiore (SSS) for clothing and fashion design. Work is underway and completion is expected in 2028.
